0:28Kassette im Walkman, die U6 kracht.

0:32Wir proben in der Küche um acht.

0:37Sie sagen, das Netz macht uns endlich frei.

0:45Dann kommt ein Mann mit Krawatte und Stift.

0:50Unterschreib hier, Bursch, bevor's dich trifft.

[Chorus]

0:53Behalt deinen Schlüssel, gib ihn nicht her.

0:58Was du heut verschenkst, kriegst du nie mehr.

1:07Denn wer ihn für dich verwahrt, hat dich in der Hand.

1:11Dich in der Hand.

[Verse 2]

1:22Sie wollen den Namen, sie wollen das Lied.

1:25Die Lieder von morgen, die keiner noch sieht.

1:32Und alle sagen, is so bequem.

1:36Die regeln das schon.

1:38Wirst schon sehen.

[Chorus]

1:42Behalt deinen Schlüssel, gib ihn nicht her.

1:46Was du heut verschenkst, kriegst du nie mehr.

Englisch · zum Singen

[Intro]
(instrumental)

[Verse 1]
A tape in the Walkman, the U6 grates.
We rehearse in the kitchen at eight.
They tell us the net's gonna set us free.
No boss and no label, just you and me.
Then in walks a man with a tie and a pen.
Sign here, my lad, it won't come round again.

[Chorus]
Keep your key, my friend, don't give it away.
What you give today won't come back your way.
Keep your key, my friend, hold it tight in your hand.
'Cause whoever holds it for you holds you in his hand.
You in his hand.

[Verse 2]
They're after the name and they're after the song.
The songs of tomorrow that nobody's sung.
They want it forever, they want it for their crew.
They smile oh so kindly, and they don't mean you.
And everyone tells you it's so comfy.
They'll sort it all out.
Just wait and see.

[Chorus]
Keep your key, my friend, don't give it away.
What you give today won't come back your way.
Keep your key, my friend, hold it tight in your hand.
'Cause whoever holds it for you holds you in his hand.

[Bridge]
I read it all through, the whole night long.
Every line and every word.
It says forever, it says for you.
Forever is long, and that burns.
Don't let them keep you safe, don't let them keep you safe.
We are so close now.
We are so close now.
We are so close now.

[Outro]
Keep your key, my friend.
Keep your key, my friend.
Keep your key, my friend.
Keep your key, my friend.
Keep it close.
Keep it close.

Die Wiener Wörter

Wienerisch English Why
Bursch my lad The label man's patronising pat on the head; same word as in Zwei Kaffee ("lad"), kept apart from Burschi = "kiddo".
bevor's dich trifft it won't come round again The salesman's pressure line; "won't come round again" is the classic hard sell and rhymes with "pen".
is so bequem it's so comfy Viennese "is" for "ist"; "comfy" is the lazy, cosy word everyone uses for the thing that eats them.
I hab's g'lesen I read it all through Clipped dialect past tense; plain spoken English.
Lass di ned verwahren Don't let them keep you safe "verwahren" is safekeeping, custody; "keep you safe" is exactly what Sorglos promises, so the warning bites.
ned don't The Viennese "nicht"; no dialect left in English.
