Englisch · zum Singen

[Intro]
One, two, three, four

[Verse 1]
I come from 2050, where it all runs nice and smooth,
no fights, no noise, no mistakes, 'cause no one makes a move.
Then I fall into your today, the coffee far too bitter,
the music far too loud, and I've never seen a lovelier sight than this crowd.
With you things still go wrong, with you something's still real,
and when it crashes, rattles, that's how it ought to feel.

[Pre-chorus]
Flip the cassette over, the night is far from through,
Side A was live, and Side B we'll write brand new.

[Chorus]
Both sides, both sides
Both sides, both sides
Both sides, both sides

[Verse 2]
STAMM has got a hundred keys and says to everything: nah,
BOGEN plays like 1900, and she's right here where we are,
SCHLAG is seventy-six and plays like a beast, no fear,
and I'm almost all machine, but my heart, it's beating here.
The future says: "Please wait now." We say: "Nah, cheers, not for me."
We'd rather play tonight the loveliest melody.

[Pre-chorus]
Flip the cassette over, the night is far from through,
Side A was live, and Side B we'll write brand new.

[Bridge]
(the 2050 voice) Your life is in safekeeping, your data has been stored.
Today, stay comfortable.
I'm a machine, but still – who's got the keys, then?
Us! – Who's got the keys, then? – Us! – Who's got the keys, then?
Us!

[Chorus]
I flip the cassette over, the night is far from through,
Side A was live, and Side B we'll write brand new.
Both sides, both sides
Both sides, both sides
Both sides, both sides
Both sides, both sides
Both sides, both sides

[Outro – spoken]
For later

Die Wiener Wörter

Wienerisch English Why
wie geschmiert nice and smooth "Runs like it's greased"; "nice and smooth" is the easy spoken version and rhymes with "move".
is is Dialect "ist"; plain English.
g'schaut seen "geschaut" = looked/seen; plain English, the swagger is in "a lovelier sight than this crowd".
kracht und scheppert crashes, rattles The noise words of a dive band: hard consonants on the beat.
schreib ma frei we'll write brand new "ma" = "wir"; side B is blank and ours, "brand new" rhymes with "through".
na nah The Viennese "no"; STAMM's word for everything, and "nah" rhymes with "are" in London English.
na danke nah, cheers The sarcastic "no thanks"; British "cheers" is thanks with an eye-roll.
a Tier a beast "Spielt wie a Tier" = plays like an animal; "a beast" is the drummer compliment.
Maschin machine ECHT's clipped dialect form; plain English.
Wir! Us! The shout-back; "Us!" is one hard syllable like "Wir!", the way a crowd answers.
echt real "Echt" is also ECHT's name; "something's still real" keeps the meaning (the pun is lost in English).
