How we speak

Warm, plain, short. Verbs before nouns, one idea per line, never a lecture. German is always "du". Both languages are written, not translated.

The band's voice

Together the band speaks Viennese: warm, dry, a little rude, never cynical. Short sentences. Jokes about itself, never about the audience. No slogans, no speeches about big tech, no marketing words.

Four voices

Member How they talk
ECHT polite, slightly old-fashioned Viennese learned from archives, slang from the wrong decades; says leiwand about everything; thanks machines
STAMM thick dialect, sarcastic, swears casually, gets quieter when he is really angry; reads every contract aloud
BOGEN soft, precise, elegant, a little old-fashioned; asks one question more than anyone expects
SCHLAG slow and warm, long pauses; a story that wanders, then one sentence that is the answer; Burschi, Gnädige Frau

Two languages

  1. Austrian German first. Songs, band lines, posters and the first draft of every text are written in Viennese.
  2. English second, written fresh. A singable or readable English version, not a word-for-word copy; a literal translation only for subtitles.
  3. Keep the untranslatable (leiwand, Beisl, Melange, Burschi) and explain it once if needed.
  4. Names never change: ECHT, STAMM, BOGEN, SCHLAG, Beidwerk, Freiregister, Café Ewig.
